Connoquenessing Watershed Alliance

Here is a link to calendar of upcoming events (thanks to the Pennsylvania Organization of Watersheds and Rivers (POWR))- we feel these events will be of interest to our members). The Connoquenessing Watershed Alliance meets the first Tuesday of every month at 7:00 pm at the Forward Township municipal building (on Route 68 between Evans City and Butler, across from Three Rivers Ice Cream).

Riversweep 2006 - http://www.orsanco.org/comm/riversweep/ The June 17, 2006 River Sweep in Butler was a great success. THANK YOU to the wonderful volunteers who worked so hard. Photos and details coming soon.

	Ecoli testing in the watershed - contact nativenatalie@zoominternet.net if you are interested in participating. Please put "ecoli" in the subject line. The 2004 final report may be accessed here: Monitoring Bacteria in the Streams May 2006 You must have Adobe Acrobat Reader (http://adobe.com/products/acrobat). The 2005 report is in progress.
	Water quality monitoring - ongoing monthly. Contact the webmaster (GeoBarbara554@cs.com) if you are interested in participating. For results, see the Water Quality Monitoring page of this website (menu at left).
	Macroinvertebrate surveys - assessing the health of the watershed by surveying (collecting, counting and identifying) the aquatic (lives in water) macroinvertebrate (think no backbone (fish need not apply as they have backbones) and large enough to see) population. These are fun - basically take a bucket of creek water and pull out the bugs and bug larvae just to say HI! while you identify and count them. These surveys give us a measure of how healthy the watershed is.
	Household hazardous waste collection coming on August 26, 2006 at the Butler County Fairgrounds. Details upcoming.
